Mood Board- Coursework

Image
I have decided to incorporate the theme of 'Summer' into my music video for a variety of  reasons. This will capture a variety of open spaces, both abroad and in the UK. Over the summer, I will be visiting Italy, Croatia and Greece. All of these destinations conform to the   dance music genre, through the aspect of going abroad, which is a key convention of dance music genre. It will also appeal to the target audience of sophisticated 16-25 year olds in the  social groups A and B, who will retain a high level of knowledge revolving around culture. It also depicts that as the social groups A and B are those of whom attain a highly- skilled professional job, these types of destinations and places are affiliated with the sort of locations in which they would reside in, therefore allowing a sense of familiarity and are able to relate with the characters in the video, as they understand and know what it is like to experience these destinations first...

Key elements that conform to the expectations of the genre , the audience you expect and what is expected of a video- Coursework

A Checklist of the key elements that conform to the expectations of the genre, the audience you expect and what is expected of a video: A variety of camera shots: Fast cut shots- Enabling the audience to maintain interest throughout the music video, and this reduces the chances of inattention. This is further enhanced when the shots are in time with the beat. Mid-shots- Allowing for the audience to retain the perception of realism Close up shots- Creating a sense of individualism and tries to express their inner thoughts and feelings onto the audience. Long shots and fish- eye lens shot- These are effective when associated with the convention of the dance genre music. Establishing shots- Invites the audience into the dance music genre environment Montages of shots- This shot type features frequently in the dance music genre, especially in time with the beat. Low and high angled shots- High angled shots evoke the perception of superiority and emerges the audience furt...

Perfect Audience Member: Coursework

Image
The Perfect Audience Member: The perfect audience member will obtain both aspirants and mainstream attributes, be between the ages of 16-25 whilst fitting into the NRS social groups A and B. Aspirants classify themselves as knowing the look, music and lifestyle they want, regardless of the price they will spend big to get it. They view that their style is about keeping up with what’s cool, without working hard to create it themselves. The perfect audience member will also contain an aspect of mainstream. This entails that they will stick with what they know, regarding things such as chart music, prime-time TV and having local nights out. This expresses the reason for Calvin Harris' and Alesso' song choice, as their music is consumed by an mainstream audience and this is who they primarily target towards. The audience must also retain a sense of sophistication, for instance having, involving and revealing a great deal of worldly experience and knowledge of fashi...

Under Control by Calvin Harris- Coursework

Under Control: Calvin Harris & Alesso (BARE TRAP Remix) The track that I have decided to use is the remixed version of Calvin Harris’ & Alesso’s ‘Under Control’. The song includes a slower beginning, which increases in tempo as the song develops. The perpetual beat on the track is the main feature of the song drawing the audience’s attention to the dance beat, hence meeting the conventions that is required for a dance music track. Calvin Harris is a highly successful DJ, singer and songwriter, who has broken the record for having the most top 10 songs from a single album on the UK singles chart. Harris utilises the electroclash and dance music genre through a number of his albums. For instance, the album ‘Motion’ in which was released in November 2014 and obtains the song ‘Under Control’, became Harris’ second consecutive number one album on the US Dance/Electronic Album charts. Harris has claimed that one of his primary influences is Fat Boy Slim, whose...

Research from the past music videos created by my artist- Coursework

This What You Came For: The music video of the song ‘This Is What You Came For’ by the Scottish DJ Calvin Harris and that features Rihanna was released officially onto YouTube on 16 th June 2016. Two months after the video was released, it received 500 million views. This doubled three months later to one billion views and by May 2018, yet again the figures doubled to over two billion views. The music video was directed by Emil Nava and Martin Coppen, who was the director of photography. The music video’s narrative captures a giant white box, which is placed in a myriad of locations, for instance, near a mountain and the forest. Both of these locations express the notion of desertion, which may convey the assumption that a person can be in any location to enable them to want to dance to a beat, but it may also emphasise individuality and self- expression in isolation. The focus then shifts towards Rhianna who is dressed in a jumpsuit, surrounded by white walls within the g...
