Media Framework
Frame 1:

It makes a fuzzing sound to imply that maybe the camera is being switched on. This shot is depicted from the perspective of a video camera. It gives off a feeling of nostalgia reflecting the 90s or early to mid 2000s.
The picture is capturing a flat block, which gives the impression presumably of an urban tower block and that culture will play a significant part in the video.
The view of the video being shot in the early 2000s and the video being released in a contemporary setting hints that maybe they are trapped in a silent existence.

Frame 2:

Troubled teens find peace in the neon light in Marshmello and Khalid's new music video for "Silence." Whatever horror awaits them at home it is nothing as they take off into the darkness on their bicycles.  This text reflects a  multi-ethnic demographic and expresses that both girls and boys are susceptible to these troubles. The distorted blue light symbolises both depression and instability evoking the characters’ moods.

Frame 3:

The shot last for one second evoking that as she is recording the camera will reflect the image being captured. It is almost like a documentary. Documentaries are usually created in order to document an aspect of reality with the intention of instructing or to educating. The camera in the shot may be the camera used to project the initial image from the video.

The colour green projected onto her face symbolically represents nature, it holds the connotation of freshness, signifying that through the act of the filming, it will allow change to occur.

Frame 4:

In this shot it shows two boys, one is holding the camera. This could represent that he is documenting his life and his own primary experience of living in an apartment block. It also may suggest that boys are more likely to become indoctrinated into the negative behaviour as a contributory factor to dealing their silence and situations. The colour yellow on both of their clothes, symbolises their vast amount of energy, which                                                                                                                        could project their enthusiasm to                                                                                                                        try to break free of their current                                                                                                                         situation or their silence.                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Frame 5:

Marshmello's stage name, is an alternative spelling of "marshmallow", and his marshmallow mascot head were both inspired by Canadian progressive house music producer deadmau5. The character in the background is Marshmello. He always features in his videos as a marshmallow, conveying that he wishes to eliminate his own physical representation and be hidden by an adopted identity shown through the marshmallow mask. This shot lasts for two seconds before the next transition shot. The quick transition could be representing that the feeling of sadness or being forlorn will not last, the feeling will be changed quickly.

Frame 6:

Before the next transition shot the fuzzing sound of the old camera occurs again, this could be evoking that the camera has ceased recording, just before the soundtrack plays. This may be suggesting that the song in itself acts as a documentary to present people’s hardships in life with dealing with their silence. The black hole evokes the sense of an abyss and that to them, the silence feels eternal.
The hole in the glass may also be suggesting a gunshot which may hold the representation of violence and anger that Khalid feels in describing his regret of silence and having the inability to tell anyone about his own thoughts. This is enhanced through the aspect of fire, which is biblically symbolic of hell, which is the destination of people who have performed bad deeds, as well as reinforces the connotation of the Khalid’s anger of asking for help and yet he turned away from it and became silenced once again.
Frame 7:

The Mid-point of view shot, gives the view of him being watched, which alludes to his vulnerability, for instance the silence of him not speaking. The use of the corridor which runs in straight parallel lines enhances the perception of him  distancing himself from the outside world, as well as he is going down a long continuous path, without any form of escape.

Frame 8:
In this shot it presents direct address, which subsequently breaks the fourth wall. It also allows for the audience to see that he is young and that a considerable number of youths are resorting to crime, as they do not possess the financial means to support themselves. There is a hint of light following him, hinting that there is hope for him.

Frame 9:

The low key lighting could be emphasising the dark place in his life that he is in. His shadow is reflected to the rear of him. As a shadow is a darker version of a person and it is dominating him, this could represent that he is on a darker path in his future. The depiction of the bag suggests that its content is illicit and owing to the fact it is exchanged at night time, heightens the sense that this is an illegal transaction.
Frame 10:

The usage of the bikes demonstrates the aspect of a journey that will be taken, the journey could be projecting  Khalid’s journey in which he asked for help about his silence. It may also be an interpretation led on from the last scene where the boy was handed a bag. Bikes have an easy form of transport, and are used  stereotypically as a mode of transport in drug dealings. This may be enhancing the notion of crime                                                                                                                          and illegal activity and behaviour.
